The Department of School Education, Andhra Pradesh is the administering authority for primary and secondary level education in the State. The department has the following objectives-

  1. Make education available to all children in the age group of 5 to 15 years.
  2. Make sure the admission of children in school.
  3. Make sure that children shall not drop out from school.
  4. Ensure the minimum quality standard of education in the state.
  5. Provide lunch to the school children under mid – day meal scheme in primary schools which fall under the government, local bodies and aided managements.
  6. Supplying textbooks to children of class 1 to 5 enrolled in the schools under the government, local bodies and aided managements.
  7. Supplying free textbooks to children of classes 6 to 10 belonging to Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Caste (SC.) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) and enrolled in the schools under the government, local bodies and aided managements.
  8. Provide training to the teachers.
  9. Strengthen and maintain standards of Pre-service Teacher Education Programs to make sure quality of education.
  10. Ensure community contribution in intensification the school education system within the State.
