English and Foreign Languages University - Overview

English & Foreign Language University (EFLU) established by Government of India in 1958 as “Central institute of English” in Hyderabad “city of Nizams”, famous for its monuments and Pearl market.

Earlier it was a Deemed University but now it has been given the status of Central University by an Act of Parliament on August 3, 2007.It is the 24th member of “Central University” family.

In 1972 it included teaching of major foreign languages like German, French and Russian as its part of expansion.

Besides main campus at Hyderabad it has two more campuses situated at Lucknow “City of Nawabs” and another one in North-Eastern part of India at Shillong.

It is the only university in India which is completely devoted to the teaching or learning of foreign languages. Varsity is autonomous in nature. EFLU is a member of the Association of Indian University (AIU). It is recognized and funded by University Grants Commission (UGC)

Over the years, EFLU has been offering courses in many foreign languages that are both popular and in demand too. English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish etc are taught here as main part of academic programme.
