Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) is situated in Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The BRAOU set up under an act of Andhra Pradesh Legislature in August 1982 is the first university of its kind in the country. The university follows a multimedia teaching learning approach consisting of self-learning print material, supported by audio, video lessons and regular broadcast of lessons through All India Radio.
In 1999 the university started delivery of classes through Video lessons, the telecast of these lessons is provided through Doordarshan Regional Channel. "GRADE" – G.Ram Reddy Research Academy of Distance Education was inaugurated on 19.01.2001 to cater to the needs of distance teaching institutions, distance educators, researchers, policy makers, organizations and institutions with research interests for promoting distance education.
