The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Andhra Pradesh is responsible authority for administration of medical education and practices in Andhra Pradesh. The main objectives of Directorate of Medical Education are as follows:- 

1. To render tertiary medical care to the patients.
   
   
2. To impart medical education to students from Undergraduate to Superspeciality levels.
   
   
3. To undertake research projects in modern medicine as per the needs of the State population as a Unit.
   
   
4. To train students of Nursing in teaching hospitals upto Postgraduate level.
   
   
5. To provide facilities for training Para-medical trainees.
   
   
6. Develop, Design and Provide Continuing Medical Education to Practitioners of Modern Medicine in all Specialties on a continuous basis.
   
   
7. To identify the requirements and gaps in the Health Care Delivery System and provide solutions.
   
   
8. To maintain World class academic standards in Medical Education.
   
   
9. To achieve the above, an organized administrative manpower with scientific skills and dedication is maintained.
